About CCDA District
Who is the Convention Center District Authority (CCDA)?
The Convention Center District Authority of Puerto Rico is a public corporation created by the October 4th, 2001 law #142, as amended by the August 3, 2004 law #185. The CCDA is in charge of developing, managing and supervising the new District’s facilities. The latter include the modern Convention Center, the Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot, as well as the construction of offices, commercial and residential areas in the district.
Together with the private industry, the Authority manages projects that reach 1.3 billion dollars. This public corporation is building a city inside another city, which sets out for Puerto Rico to become a worldwide leader in the production of events, shows and conventions.
A New Era in the Tourism Industry
To establish Puerto Rico as an important player in the convention industry, an ambitious project is being developed to fulfill the needs of this growing industry. This is the Puerto Rico Convention District, located on the San Juan peninsula of Isla Grande next to Miramar, Condado and Old San Juan. The Convention District is being created on 113 acres of prime land under the administration of the Puerto Rico Convention Center District Authority, a state agency established by the Puerto Rico legislature. The district will include hotels, retails stores, homes and recreational areas. The modern and cutting-edge convention center will be the drawing force for a new era of tourism on the island.
A Jewel of Modern Urbanism
The best and most prestigious development teams have come together to turn the Convention District into a marvel of modern architecture. The focus of their effort is to create a vibrant 21st century neighborhood, memorable to its inhabitants, neighbors and visitors. Stretching the length of the park is a lagoon featuring a series of pools and fountains combined with play areas, walking and bicycle paths, small performance areas, gardens, and cafés. The Master Plan contemplates roughly 4.1 million square feet of development within a setting of generous open spaces, water features, native trees and a well-designed urban streetscape.
A Walk through the District
A convention center of 580,000 square feet. A jewel of modern architecture in the heart of the Convention District.
From specialized boutiques to stores, there will be something for everybody.
Areas for commerce and business will be alongside the parkland.
Visitors will enjoy two luxury hotels with a total 1,720 rooms. For residents, close to 225 dwellings will be built as an extension of the Miramar residential sector.
A movie complex will feature the latest releases.
A wide variety of culinary experiences will be offered, from a great dinner at a 5-tar restaurant to a take-out sandwich to enjoy while strolling through the parkland.
Well-designed public spaces will offer rest and relaxation to all areas. The park alongside the “paseo” will provide sidewalks and areas for leisure.
Powerful Dynamo for Economic Development
The Convention District is the product of a mixed-used urban waterfront design planned to enhance the economic potential of our new cutting-edge convention center and redevelop the largest contiguous and underutilized parcel of land in the city of San Juan. With a government investment of $415 million and a projected private investment of $900 million, the Convention District will serve as a platform for the development of a much needed convention facility, hotels, offices, restaurants, residential and other mixed-use areas, all strategically planned to support convention and trade activity and expand Puerto Rico’s regional economic base. The Convention District will be developed as a public/private effort with investment and incentives targeted and committed to the public sector in order to generate private development activity and investment.
